As a teacher, I love to keep the students engaged and excited about what they are learning. I try to make each lesson one that I am excited about teaching, and one that if I were a student in my class, would be enthusiastic about learning. I try to keep a hands-on approach to the lessons that I create, while integrating technology as well as crafty ideas to keep the students excited.

This Winter Themed Poetry and Reader's Theater unit is a fun way to teach the standard RL3.5. You can use this as rotations or as whole group mini-lessons.
Rotations:
If using this unit as rotations, simply print out the rotation cards and place them in plastic tubs or file folders. Place the corresponding materials in each center. After teaching a mini-lesson about poetry and dramas, have your students rotate throughout the centers, completing the response sheet for each poem. You may want to have your students divide into small groups for this activity. Students can keep their completed work in a folder using the title page provided. You may also wish to staple all the response sheets together and have students complete them as they rotate through the centers.
Whole Group:
If rotations aren’t your thing, you may also use these poems during your whole group mini-lesson. Project a poem on the smart board while your students have a copy of the poem with the response sheet on the back. You may wish to highlight rhyming words or various patterns your students see. You may also want to underline parts where the author uses nonliteral language.
